DC5Q: A Brief Convo with Leigh Flurry
Leigh Flurry. The Man. The Artist. The Dendropheliac (we wish were kidding about that one…). Regardless of what you may think of him, you can’t deny the guy’s talent. In this month’s DC5Q, we talk to the illustrator supreme about where he’s gone and what’s to come.
DC5Q: Let’s start by telling us about yourself, DOB/Location/Bank Information? You know, the usual.
LF: Im currently based in Bristol ( UK ), in my opinion, is one of the most creative cities in the UK at the moment, im highly byist because I have webbed feet… Before that I spent 5 years in sunny Manchester. I’m a graphic designer by day and an illustrator by night, well, it dosent always pan out like that, but thats the general vibe. I take along time working on my illustrations because im a fussy sod and god help the women who marries me. I’m getting back into more hand drawn, traditional drawing and laying off the digital side of things if I can, I find drawing good for the phyche and the right side of my brain ( Ginkgo Tea is also good for that ).
DC5Q: With your portfolio release a couple of months ago what’s up next in Mr. Flurry’s evil plot for world domination?
LF: It’s been a good, productive working year so far, so currently ( 01.08.2012 ) I’m taking a bit of a chill out and not busting my eye balls in front of a screen for 16 hours a day. But, when I decide that Cataracts are a trendy fashion accessory, I have a ‘lightweight’ clothing concept I’m going to pursue. I would like to get involved with a few selected artists on a project of some kind and give the people something for nothing. Everyone loves free s***, unless you’ve won immunity. I also want to build my own bird box.
DC5Q: So we gotta ask, why the change from urban styled themes to nature illustrations?
LF: Well, that’s not entirely accurate. I love the wild and untamed and i’ve always love a good street vibe. I want to fuse the two. Not saying im going to produce a puma made out of wildstyle letters, although that could look fly. I think in my head I just want to convey natural icons in a colorful and energetic way.
DC5Q: What’s blasting through your headphones right now?

DC5Q: Any illegitimate children we should know about?
LF: I once made love to a tree. She said Cedar and decided to leaf, turned up two years later with an unplanted bayleaf. It was a root awakening, thats for sure….
